"I don't even know if computer science is categorized as hard or soft"
-
@tedks I'd say that's because the category is too broad, different aspects of it are one or the other.

I wonder how hard it is to hack microwave oven firmware? Mine keeps beeping at me when it's done cooking. Which is annoying.
-
Just finished setting up gnu-fm, including a scrobbling clinet, interested to track mylistening habits.
-
The only thing I have going for me right now is the generic ability to code random shit no else wants to. What else am I good for?
about a day ago from identi.ca-
@speeddefrost I'd hazard a guess you're pretty good at converting O^2 and various C compounds to CO^2
-
-
Why, yes, I am having a wonderful weekend in cottage country. Thanks for asking!
-
I like to call it Frottage Country but nobody else thinks that's funny.
-
@evan you can't say "nobody" any more, that got a guffaw out of me.
-
-
I had a Plato's cave moment at "Node has a HUGE COMMUNITY" http://ur1.ca/9946p
-
Half of what I read there is horrifying. Half is decent. There are a few gems of insight.
-
I can feel I got a sunburn @windigo. We should know better then to go out doors! :P
-
@nybill sounds like comedy marine training movie scene
-
@nybill I don't think you have any worries as long as you're running a statusnet server.
-
@kevingranade Yep, I do. (but, I admit I still use identica ~90% of the time. Gunmonkeynet is SLOW... behind a router on an old laptop)
-
-
Overdosed on tamarind, now… chinese peanut candy or bánh mì ? Or mangoes ?
-
@ryanweal frozen fruit, doesn't much matter which kind, they're all delicious
-
-
I'm goddamned tempted to block all you asshats responding to that poll.

90% of my department wore blue shirts today. This is what happens when the matrix doesn't use good random number source.
- Neil Hodges repeated this.
-
@x1101 I believe there are RNGs that are specifically designed to "look" random, good for games for example.
-
@kevingranade yea, but what looks random and what *is* random are very different. I can roll same number on a die 3x, and it still random.
-
@x1101 absolutely, I was just throwing out a "random" bit of information.
-
"Vi har en CMD som skal igennem systemet dd" # Saw this Danish sentence in an e-mail, to me it almost looks like a series of Unix commands.
- Neil Hodges repeated this.
-
@climagic no wonder nordic hackers have such a big presence in FOSS, it really is their native tounge ;)
-
someone along the route needs ti light a joint from the #Olympic torch to connect it in passing with real people #London2012
-
@kevingranade that's my point, there's nothing connecting them to real people, someone lighting a joint from the torch would be a token only
-
@kevingranade oh wait, the joints would need to be branded by official sponsors, otherwise the SAS would swoop in to cover it; scuppered
-
@kevingranade Insightful. Accurate.
-
-
It's taking all my willpower to ignore the donuts a cow-orker brought in today.
-
Just seated for a live Moth show, very excited :)
-
Like, The Moth radio show? Awesome!
-
@windigo yep, that one, 4 live stories in the Pabst theatre.
-
-
One of the speakers is Molly Ringwald, and my wife just admitted she never saw "the breakfast club" OR "pretty in pink", I'm in shock.
-
@jk bah, I'm bailing on this for right now. Searching on this phone sucks. But so far I think I liked Heather Locklear.
-
@johnnynull oh yeah, she was really hot! Suzanne Somers too, from 3's Company.
-
I’d laugh, but I’ve seen none of the above.
-
-
Happy to see that code review has caught on in my team, submissions usually get reviewed within an hour or two of submission.
-
Now I just need to figure out a test for the overlay-inheriting-text-faces bug, and I can land overlay support.
-
Overlays were causing performance issues in !identicamode, but remembered something about them accumulating, (remove-overlays) fixed it :)
-
@ralesk it seems #evince wins out between the two in terms of dependencies, but it's still too high. would like something a bit lighter
-
@eightyeight is xpdf acceptable? It's generally what I use.
-
@kevingranade yeah. looking at it now
-
@kevingranade @eightyeight gv/ghostscript work if those already are installed.
